July 31 Blended Learning Pilot Sponsored by Ilm Ideas (DFID-UKAID)

In July 2015 Knowledge Platform concluded a 12-week blended learning pilot deployed across five privately owned secondary schools in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and Rawalpindi districts. The pilot was the result of a grant agreement with Ilm Ideas, a Department for International Development (DFID) initiative in Pakistan. Schools were deliberately selected to reflect variations in fee structure (PKR 1,200 – 3,850), location, gender, and syllabi (Federal and Rawalpindi). Knowledge Platform’s blended learning solution includes digital content and learning media based on local curriculum loaded onto a learning management system (LMS), and supported by standard technology components such as laptop, projector, speakers and clickers. Learn Smart Pakistan’s Online Learning Challenge comes to an end. Content is now available for all students and teachers on the learning platform. On May 25th, Knowledge Platform (SMC-Pvt.) Ltd. launched a blended learning challenge for 9th grade students and teachers. It provided free access to educational resources, encouraged the preparation of board exams through an online learning platform and introduced a new, innovative learning experience. The contest came to an end on July 12th with more than 1500 participants from 325 schools in 78 cities across Pakistan. My Town – an international, non-profit initiative to develop global perspectives among students through collaborative and competitive projects – has successfully completed its first, pilot competition. Teams from eight schools around the world engaged with each other to describe: “An interesting or significant feature of my town.” Collaborating online through the My Town website, each team developed and presented a video on their selected topic. The participating schools were: American Community School (Athens, Greece); Barbara Priestman Academy (Sunderland, England); BeiDa Senior High School (Taipei, Taiwan); Chittagong Grammar School (Chittagong, Bangladesh); Junior Middle School 2 (Shanghai, China); Nancy Campbell Collegiate Institute (Stratford, Canada); Nanshan High School (Taipei, Taiwan); and The Spinney School (Cambridge, England). My Town – an international, non-profit initiative to develop global perspectives among students through collaborative and competitive projects – has launched its first pilot competition. Teams from eight schools around the world will engage with each other to describe: “An interesting or significant feature of my town.” Engaging online through the My Town website, each school suggests a topic for its project, which must be treated using critical thinking or creative expression. By the end of the program, each team will post and present content related to its topic.
